You've probably heard me say this a hundred times, but I'll say it again: your worth comes from Him, not any him.
I spent the past weekend with a hundred of my closest friends (aka my rowing teammates) sharing one gym floor. Living for 72 hours with 50 girls is defiantly eventful as I'm sure any one can imagine and relate to. It's fun, it's giggles, it's being silly all hours, and making memories that last a lifetime. Of course there's your typical teenage girl pillow talk that goes on every night, and one thing someone said rekindled a fire in my heart to speak out about it. This girl said possibly the phrase every girl has thought at one point, but also the most lie filled statement we can say to ourselves: "I need a guy to feel good about myself."
I know, right now you're probably thinking, oooOF, dang girl why would you say that?!?! And those thoughts went right through my head the second those words came out of her mouth. Then, after my moment of shaking my head, I remembered the nights where I had put my worth in what a boy said about me. What a guy told me that day. When I had compared myself to others based on the number of comments about how I looked in my bikini on instagram I got from guys.
Because the truth is, ladies, we all have put our worth in a boy before.
Recently, I heard a mentor of mine say sometimes the best advice you can give is the advice you wish someone had given to you. Well, here's what I would say to the times I was that girl who put her worth in a boy:
You're worth comes from the Lord. Your worth does not come from how many compliments you get when you're all dressed up, the number of guys who tell you you're beautiful, where you are placed in a team, how you do as a student, how you compare to every other girl in the room. Your worth comes from the One who hung the stars and painted the sea. Our Father, the Creator of all life, created you in his image and if he created trees with such care, he also created you deeply rooted in his love. He loves you more than any human is ever capable of loving you, He is the author of love. If the Creator of all things, thinks that you are worthy, than who can tell you that you aren't?
You will never be good enough for this world. There will always be a girl that's prettier than you. There will always be a boy who breaks your heart. There will always be someone who doesn't like you. The same person who praised you yesterday, may knock you down today. People will change their minds about you. People will hate you for no reason. You can't please everyone. Some will never be able to forgive you. But, Our God will. He will forgive you, He will love you unconditionally. When the world tells you that you aren't enough, He will respond with words of how you are more precious than gold.
To all the young girls reading this right now, I am praying for you. I am praying for myself. I hope one day that I do find a man who will love me deeply rooted in Christ's love. I pray that in those moments when you don't get the guy you liked, when you aren't noticed by all the boys, when you don't get the reassurance that you are beautiful, that you will remember the truths about yourself that are rooted in the Lord. You are loved, you are cherished, you are beautiful, you are enough. And ladies, that's those are the truths I pray you remember.
